The beauty of the black line

Sometimes a story calls for simplicity of line. When creating the illustrations for A Spot of Blue, I wanted to create a simple design that would allow us to clearly see the blue spot and so the rest of the book and the owl stays in shades of browns. Having an own that is both simple and intricate was all about the strength

of the black outline.
