Take a minute...
Updated: Sep 3, 2020
There are a lot of things that can benefit from us taking a minute in between steps, but art and illustration are definitely a few of those things that get better when we can give them the breathing room they need. What does that mean for me specifically?
It means taking a couple of days when I am done with certain major steps (like if I have completed all the first go at all the illustrations and before I start the review and edit process).
It means taking a moment after I have written a story before I edit or review it.
It means taking some time in between projects that have very different illustration styles. For example this illustration was part of a coloring book and it was done entirely with ink and in black and white, so it was great to be able to focus on all the ink illustrations in one go, then taking a little break and then starting a new style for other illustrations.
It means giving myself a break between projects to listen to a short meditation so that I am no longer carrying the energy of one project into the other.
